Gardening Season-Happy Little Worms

It's the time to start focusing on our gardens and what better way to kick off the season than getting your composting together. Here is a great article & Q&A posted on super fresh and informative blog Pink Door Cottage. It will help you get started with a great composting option-vermiculture.

Want to reduce waste and produce nutrient-rich compost for your garden?  Invite a pound of worms to make themselves at home in your kitchen!
I discovered vermiculture when I was researching easy ways to compost in the city.  I wanted an effective method that wouldn’t attract rodents or smell.  I also knew that if it required too much work, I probably wouldn’t stick with it and wouldn’t be able to convince our gardeners to either.
Stephanie Davies and Amber Gribben of Urban Worm Girl are experts when it comes to vermiculture or composting with worms.  The Chicago-based duo sells everything you need to get started on their site, including worms by the pound.
They also offer workshops, host home parties and install commercial worm bins for businesses looking to benefit from vermiculture.  Davies has even written a book on the subject, “Composting Inside & Out.”
